They are installed on each side of the bow. My longer boats do great with the pole. You may want to try doing a short 3 or 4 foot piece to get the hang of it before committing to the real thing. Making accent stripes which are a little more complex than a single strip that contrasts with the basic hull color is not difficult, but it does take some thought and a little extra time. By doing things the same way as the standard all the time I'm not advancing our collective knowledge or learning from failure. Using the overturned hull for a cutting pattern was very helpful. I didn't wet the hull with water, since there was little if any effect when I did the outside of the hull. This left the cloth "floating" here and there, and I did expose the weave of the cloth in spots while sanding. This is a detail shot showing how the seats are hung. I hadn't thought of using something as heavy as oak but had thought of going with something like poplar for a little added strength but not much extra weight.
